- Step 1 of 7.
Measure and wind line
- You keep
- Opening size, photos of what the door anchors into, and the design wind speed for your lot
- Signed by
- Estimator
Same size or not, we measure the opening and look at the framing, then read your lot on Collier's design wind map.
Collier County (unincorporated): The county map runs from about 151 mph in Immokalee to 168 at Goodland; North and East Naples mostly read 163 to 166.
- Step 2 of 7.
Quote with the approval number
- You keep
- Written quote naming the door, its Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA number and its rated pressure
- Signed by
- You, to order the door
That number follows the door everywhere: onto the permit, onto the label and into your file.
Collier County (unincorporated): Collier's index sheet lists each approval number, and the door's rating has to beat the load on the opening it replaces.
- Step 3 of 7.
HOA approval, if you have one
- You keep
- The association's approval letter
- Signed by
- Your HOA or architectural committee
The association goes first. Florida law says it can't require the building permit before it reviews your project (F.S. 720.3035).
Collier County (unincorporated): The committee's letter goes into your file, right next to the permit number.
- Step 4 of 7.
Permit issued
- You keep
- The permit number, texted to you the day the office issues it
- Signed by
- Our qualifier and the building office
We file as the licensed contractor. Where a form needs the owner's signature, you sign in front of a notary.
Collier County (unincorporated): Collier County: a Doors/Windows, Garage Doors, Shutters permit (PRSD) through the GMCD Public Portal, with the floor plan, index sheet and pressure table.
- Step 5 of 7.
Install day
- You keep
- Photos of the anchors and fasteners before the trim goes on, and of the door's label
- Signed by
- Installer
The label stays on the door for the inspector. Installs run Monday to Saturday, inside the hours your office allows.
Collier County (unincorporated): Unincorporated Collier: 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Step 6 of 7.
Final inspection
- You keep
- The inspection result and its date, forwarded to you by text
- Signed by
- Building inspector
A pass is good news, but it isn't the last stop.
Collier County (unincorporated): 'Inspections Completed' isn't closed. Collier's Bulletin 14 says conditions or fees can still be pending, and a request to close is required.
- Signed off.
Closed out
- You keep
- Permit number, a screenshot of the portal showing it closed, and the link to look it up yourself
- Signed by
- Building department
That's the page for a buyer, a title company or a wind mitigation inspector. Where an office grants an HB 803 exemption letter instead of a permit, the letter takes this spot.
Collier County (unincorporated): Search the address under Search for a Property, or the permit number under Status and Fees. It should read FINALED.
