Marco Island garage doors, under the island's own rules
Marco is its own city, with its own building department, a wind line near the top of Collier's map, and about half its homes used only part of the year. A garage door here gets planned around all three.

The city's permit asks for more
Permits on the island come from the City of Marco Island, not from Collier County. The city's Window/Door permit form asks whether every opening stays size for size (a new size makes it an alteration permit), wants site-specific design pressures prepared by a design professional along with a plan of the openings, and compares the door's rated pressure with your house's in a product approval index. It also reminds owners to check deed restrictions. A final inspection closes it. City code keeps construction between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and off Sundays and holidays, so installs here are Monday through Saturday. Marco Island permits, stop by stop.
170 on the form, 171 at Cape Marco
The city's form lists 170 mph for a typical home, Risk Category II, and Collier's wind map agrees: 170 mid-island and 171 at Cape Marco, near the top of the county's range. Irma made its last landfall near Marco in 2017. A lot facing open Gulf water may also be rated exposure D, a call the design professional makes from the water around the site. That's why a door chosen for a house inland isn't automatically right here. Impact-rated and wind-rated doors.
Salt air and a house closed for months
About half the homes on Marco are used only part of the year, according to Census figures. A door that stays shut from spring to fall spends hurricane season in salt air with nobody running it, while the salt keeps working on the springs, hinges and bearings. Before you leave, a tune-up takes about an hour. If something breaks while you're away, we work with your house watcher or property manager and send you the finished job by text: photos, the parts we used and the warranty terms.
Goodland is county, not city
Goodland, east of the island in ZIP 34140, isn't part of the City of Marco Island. It's unincorporated Collier County, which means the door permit there is the county's PRSD, and Collier's map reads 168 mph. Tell us the address and we send the application to the right office before we order a new door.
